What is Earth Hour?

Earth Hour is run by the conservation organisation World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Earth Hour is a global climate change initiative which calls on individuals and businesses around the world to turn off their lights for one hour. The goal of the campaign is to express that individual action on a mass scale can help change our planet for the better.

What is different about Earth Hour in 2010?

Earth Hour is evolving from just one hour, on one day of the year to a message of Earth Hour, Every Hour!

Earth Hour aims to encourage the community to commit to behavioural changes in their daily lives and reduce their environmental footprint.

This year, Earth Hour focuses on promoting long-term sustainability. You can turn over a new leaf and 'make a resolution' for planet Earth. Earth Hour means easy to participate, action, looking to the future... This year let's remember, that together we can make a switch for the better.

How is the Hyperdome being green?

Here are just a few of the things we do on a daily basis at Hyperdome Shopping Centre to help reduce our carbon footprint:

  • Food retailers support Oz Harvest, donating excess food to the organisation, reducing amounts of waste
  • Cardboard recycled across the centre
  • Restricted flow push button taps to be installed, reducing water waste
  • Water main has pressure reducing valve
  • Saving 35% energy by changing to energy saving light bulbs
  • All lighting is automatically reduced during the night and reaches 35% by midnight

What are the benefits of becoming green?

The benefits are endless and can be easy to implement at home and at work. Click here to find out what you can do every day to help you make the switch to a sustainable lifestyle and make Earth Hour, Every Hour!
